Doubled oil life and improved engine cleanliness for MS Ostia by switching towards Mobilgard HSD+ 15W40
The owners of the new vessel MS Ostia have opted for the use of the new Mobilgard HSD+ 15W40 for their Caterpillar 3152 C main engine, with as objective to achieve longer drain intervals for oil and filters. Consequently, they can achieve significant savings every year while keeping their engine in excellent condition. In their previous vessel, they were using a standard 15W40 in the former Caterpillar engine and were able to reach 2 000 hours with this oil.
The oil drain interval has increased towards 4 250 hours thanks to the Mobilgard HSD+ 15W40 and Mobil Serv Oil Analysis, monitoring this process. The results of the oil analysis demonstrated outstanding resistance to corrosive and abrasive wear within this longer intervals. This generates a yearly savings of 1 400 EUR on oil and on filter consumption. Inspection of the engine showed no contamination. The new Mobilgard HSD+ 15W40 created a greater engine efficiency, as well as longer engine life and longer oil life.
